Home made Ram air.

1. Your old air silencer and factory air box. (free)
2. some 1/4 inch long sheet metal screws (1/8 dia) ($1.50)
3. three sections of the above mentioned pipe ($1.71 each)
4. one 5" to 4" reducer. Same material as above pipe. ($1.20 )
5. drill and small drill bit for screws.
6. a hacksaw
7. K&N filter (for full effect)
8. Removal of factory fog lights (for full effect)
9. keep factory fog lights (if you only want to go into fender)

Here's how: Put your car on jack stands (safety is first).

1. remove the airbox/silencer/filter from your car (for room to work)

2. separate the silencer and airbox (if has not been removed yet) Just pull it apart!

3. Cut back the factory air silencer about 6 inches from the snorkel end. this will make the diameter large enough to fit the 4" end of the reducer (it stretches - make it tight). The aluminum 4" end should be bent slightly in an oval shape to fit the oval air silencer hole. Make sure to cut the hole so that it is parallel to the line of the fender. You may have to install the silencer and mark it to be sure. I cut it with a hack saw.

4. Attach one end of a pipe section to the 5" side of the reducer with the screws (I used 2 screws - one on each side)

5. Now that the reducer fits, take it back apart go from under the car and stick the 4" end out of the hole in the fender (where the snorkel used to go) Putting the pipe into a 90 degree form will help here.

6. Re-attach the 4" end (through the fender) to the air silencer. (the silencer should not be on the airbox yet)

7. re-attach the silencer to the airbox and go ahead and re-install the filter/airbox/silencer set up in your Mustang. We are done under the hood!

Note that this tight fit of the silencer on the reducer will hold the lightweight piping assembly (since they are screwed together). I did not need any extra supports. The first 90 degree bend also presses firmly against the fender, so it won't move once installed.

IF You only want in-the fender pipe (to keep the lights) you are done! Just aim the tube forward & down.

8. join the remaining two pipes together with screws, and attach them to the section now hanging in your fender. Attach the two sections to the hanging section with a screw (this is the trickiest part!)

9. shape the pipe as desired by rotating the sections by hand.

My setup is aimed directly to the front of the car, right behind the cutout where the factory foglight was. It looks great! It has a higher pickup in second gear and higher. You can't beat this mod for the price, and you will be proud you did it yourself!
Total installation time (not including shopping) is about 1 hour!
