Model Line Description

New for 2001:
Mustang gets black outline headlights and spoilers on all trims. The GT receives a unique hood, side scoops and standard 17-inch wheels. A special edition Mustang Bullitt GT arrives this spring.



Information

History: The original Mustang, which debuted in 1964, was not only one of the most successful new car introductions in automotive history, but it also created a market segment known as the "pony car," noteworthy for compact dimensions, a long-hood/short-deck profile and spirited performance. As the years have passed, most of the Mustang's competitors have disappeared or evolved to compete in other market segments. The Mustang itself has undergone many changes in design and market focus over the yearstoday's version marks a return to the car's performance and styling roots.
Trim Details: The 2001 Ford Mustang is available in twelve trims: Mustang Coupe in Standard, Deluxe and Premium trims; Mustang Coupe GT, Mustang Convertible and Mustang Convertible GT in Deluxe and Premium trims; Mustang Cobra SVT in coupe and convertible trims; and Mustang Bullitt GT. Safety features include dual airbags, child-seat tether anchors, an optional traction control system and anti-lock brake system (ABS), standard on Premium and GT trims. Powering the Mustang Coupe and Convertible is a 3.8-liter V6 engine producing 190 horsepower. A 4.6-liter 260-horsepower V8 provides power for the GT trims, while the Bullitt GT gets an additional ten horses for 270 horsepower. The Cobra gets a 320-horsepower version of the 4.6-liter V8. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, power windows and door locks, tinted glass, remote keyless entry, an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD players, and 15-inch aluminum wheels. The convertible trims feature a power-retractable top and 16-inch bright alloy wheels. The Premium trims offer 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a six-disc CD changer. The GTs upgrade with a unique hood and side scoops, dual exhaust, fog lights, sport bucket seats, a limited-slip differential, front and rear stabilizer bars, and 17-inch forged aluminum wheels. The GT Premium adds new 17-inch 5-spoke wheels with bright flanges and a 6-disc CD changer. The Bullitt GT features a lowered suspension, unique side scoops, Bullitt-style 17-inch wheels, and special Bullitt badging. The top-level Cobras add traction control, a unique independent rear suspension, tri-color tail lights, leather sport seats, Ford's Mach 460 audio system.
